Job Summary:
Ambulance
Supervisor Is providing quick, efficient response to emergency situations, and supervises
the ambulance fleet, communications systems, equipment management, and delivery
of accident & emergency services to the patients.
Responsibilities and duties:
· Response to emergency calls to provide efficient and
immediate care to the critically ill and/or injured, and transports them to
·
Upon arrival at the scene perform a quick assessment to
determine safest transfer mode according to the nature of the illness or
injury.
· Opening and maintaining airway, assisting doctor with
intubation, ventilation and cardio pulmonary resuscitation. Render suction
procedure as required.
· Assist Physician to render emergency medical care such as
controlling of bleeding, bandaging wounds and immobilization of painful
deformed extremities.
· Insert cannula, give prescribed emergency medications and
administer oxygen as ordered by doctor.
· Assist in lifting and carrying the patient out of the
ambulance to the receiving facility.
· Constantly assess the patient during the transfer to the
hospital providing additional care as indicated or directed by the doctor.
· Meet patients at the ER entrance with a stretcher and guide
them to the triage or treatment according to priority.
· Collects patients from the unit / floor to the ambulance for
transfer to other facilities or home either by wheelchair or stretcher as
patient’s condition permits.
· After each call, restocks and replaces used linens, blankets
supplies, clean all equipment following appropriate disinfection procedures
according to the infection control policy. Send any defective equipment for
prompt servicing to ensure that all equipment's are in good working condition at
all the time.
· Ensures ambulance is clean, washed and stocked according to
the ambulance checklist.

Determines that the vehicle is in proper mechanical condition
all the time.
Management Responsibilities:
·
Meet
daily with the ER head nurse or area supervisor (in the absence of the head
nurse) to discuss area matters.
·
Liaise
with support services regarding area hygiene.
· Do
monthly supplies inventory and compare with balance in computer to ensure
correct charging of supplies.
·
Responsible
about the roster of the Emergency medical technician and the ER in the absence
of the ER head nurse.
·
Collaborate
with cashier in ensuring that consultation fees are correctly charged.
· Monitor
the patient flow through the waiting area and ensure proper sorting criteria.
·
Prepare
training program with assistance of the education department.
·
Keep coaching records for every workers member.
· Do performance
appraisals for probationary period and annual performance appraisals in the
absence of the ER head nurse.
·
Counsel
Nurses as required and document same, refer to education department as
necessary in the absence of the ER head nurse.
·
Monitor
the patient referral process (to ER or other specialties) and document this.
·
Make
sure files are returned to Medical Records Department before closing for the
day.
· Keep daily statistics and submit them to house supervisor or ADON on daily basis in the absence of the ER head nurse.
Interpersonal skills / communication:
· Use the proper chain of command on all nursing
related matters.
· Communicate to ER Head Nurse / ER Manager all
matters related to ambulance call out and transfers.
· A role model for good interpersonal
relationships with other department.
· Promote effective working relationships between
nursing and medical team and other ambulance users.
· Good communication skills are necessary.
Competencies:
Education:
· Diploma of Nursing or Paramedic Training.
Experience:
·
High School Diploma or at least 5 years
experience in leadership position.
·
BLS certified.
Training:
· Applied pharmacology training an advantage.
