Job Summary:
The Critical Care Area Supervisor is responsible for ensuring that patient care is coordinated and managed appropriately within the critical care areas at (.......................) He/she is responsible about all managerial and clinical issues related to nursing and responsible for ensuring that patient and family care services are delivered appropriately and the supervision of nursing staff at the critical care units is appropriately addressed.
Responsibilities and duties:

Maintain the imaginative and prescient and project announcement of (.......................).
· Facilitate the proper functioning of critical
care areas through coordination and connection between units’ staff.
·
Assist in formulating policies and procedures for all units.
·
Supervise the activities of nurses within the units.
·
Delegate authority when not available in the unit.
·
Liaise with infection management team in guaranteeing safe standards of practice.
·
Guides head nurses in designing assignments for nursing personnel at the crucial care units to ensure proper distribution of
assignments and adequate management of time, space and facilities.
·
Participates in all disaster drill and Disaster Management
program.
·
Participates actively in nursing and/or hospital programs and
activities.
·
Prepare area specific orientation program according to
specialties for new staff.
·
Monitor continuous nursing education attendance by his/her
staff and keep records of training.
· Participate in the unit orientation program with the
assistance of the units' head nurses.
· Monitor nurse’s performance and institute remedial actions
where required with the assistance of the Education Team.
·
Provide mentorship for new staff.
·
Prepare unit staff development plan with the assistance of
the Education Team.
·
Ensures a profitable use of used consumables and equipment.
·
Takes immediate corrective action as needed for any
clinical mistake.
· Ensures the implementation of health education to the
patients and families whenever required.
· Hold regular unit meetings with staff to discuss unit issues and submit minutes to the CNO.
Clinical Governance:
· Ensure that all nursing staff is following the policies of (.......................)
in providing optima patient care according to evidence based clinical practice.
·
Do regular clinical rounds in all units.
·
Works with employees to resolve social conflicts.
·
Provides developmental opportunities and encouraging
teamwork.
· Closely monitor the delivery of evidence based practice care
by auditing patient care activities on a daily basis.
·
Identifies needed equipment of the critical care departments.
· Assist in monitoring and investigating all patient events
occurring in his/her critical care areas in accordance with (.......................)
policy.
· Adhere to contamination manipulate guidelines and procedures.
· Monitors all staff (including nursing and non-nursing
personnel) under his/her supervision to ensure that they are:
· Following established safety management policies and procedures
in the use of equipment and supplies in the critical care units.
·
Participate in all fire and disaster prevention
protocols, drills as per guidelines and
Procedures.
·
Hold to Infection control policies and procedures.
· Coordinate with the clinical manager of the critical care
units in the managerial and clinical issues related to the nursing staff.
·
Ensure accurate and timely documentation of all clinical
interventions in patient’s file and electronic medical records.
· Serves as a job model for nursing employees and
may demonstrate leadership ability and
management skills through fair decision making.
· Report and document all deviations from (.......................)
policy to Head of the critical care units.
· Have clear knowledge of the following policies:
1) Code blue policy
2) Disaster management
3) Infection control protocols.
4) Fire and safety
5) Medivac (SOS) ambulance policy.
Communication and Interpersonal skills:
· Must follow correct channels of communication according to
the departmental organization chart.
·
Always communicate clearly both verbally and in writing.
·
Encourage good rapport between the staff and other care
givers.
·
Demonstrate awareness of and sensitivity toward other
cultures and religions
·
Be able to coordinate and integrate services for the benefit
of patient care.
·
Excellent fluency in English and Arabic.
Critical thinking skills are necessary.
Competencies:
Education:
BSN, Master of critical care nursing is preferred.
Experience:
·
Post graduate qualification in Critical
nursing science an advantage.
·
At least 5 years’ experience in Critical
Care, 3 of those in senior position.
· Current BLS and ACLS certification required.
Training:
· Must be registered with the
Egyptian Syndicate and Registration body of country of origin.
· Must practice nursing with accountability and within the scope of practice as prescribed by the Syndicate and International Council of Nurses (ICN).
