Job Description Department: Nursing Title: Health Screening Unit Head Nurse
Reports to:
Area Supervisor, House supervisor.
Accountable to:
Area Supervisor, house supervisor, ADON &DON.
Collaborates with:
House supervisor, ER, Support Services, Infection Control Team and Nursing Education Team, are being implemented.
Responsibilities and duties:
· Collaborate with the reception staff regarding patients with
appointments for specific specialties
·
Assist patient to choose type of program according
to eligibility.
· Ensure that secretary obtain patient's chart at the
same time obtain payment or guarantee letter from companies.
· Make sure the patients’ files are collected on time
from Medical Record office (if any) in most cases; patients are first time
visit and require opening new file.
· Insure accurate and safe sample collection according
to selection of checkup procedures
·
Ensure
the Preparation of consulting rooms for
all the clinics
· Accomplish
routine safety checks and monitor preventive maintenance of all equipment in
the unit
· Provide a high level nursing service within hospital policy.
· Is a clinical and administrative resource
person for staff, must learn and teach new Primary Health Care practices.
· Make sure patients who needed assistance with wheel chair and
porters etc., are promptly and appropriately assisted.
·
Request needed supplies and equipment’s for unit.
·
Supervise documentation of staff nurses, and insure accuracy
of medical record
· Participate in department-specific orientation for new department employees and learn new clinical practices to ensure safe practice for all nurses.
· Investigates and resolves complaints and counseling of staff
and refers unusual problems to superior.
·
Monitor the patient flow through the waiting area and ensure
proper sorting criteria.
·
Monitor the patient referral process (to ER or other
specialties) and document this.
· Make sure files are returned to Medical Records Department
before closing for the day.
·
Attend monthly leadership committees, and inform staff about
new issues.
·
Conduct staff meetings on a monthly basis and keep written
minutes.
· Establish monthly staffing schedules to ensure staffing levels and skill mix match patient care needs.
· Do probationary and yearly performance appraisal of all staff
with the collaboration of nursing education team.
·
Assess learning needs of staff, and planning continuous
evaluation in collaboration of education department, keep training records for
each staff member.
·
Assist in strategic planning by providing input especially in
resource planning.
Management Responsibilities:
· Maintain accurate and precise record keeping of
equipments in the unit.
· Ensure all staff are working within standard guidelines and
Procedures of (......).
· Must know the objectives, vision and mission statement of (......).
· Must strive for excellence in health care delivery through
realization of the objectives at unit level.
· Know and respect the lines of authority according to the
nursing organization structure.
·
Direct and supervise unit nurses effectively.
Clinical Governance:
· Ensure accurate documentation of all patient events and
clinical interventions.
· Audit patient care daily to ensure compliance with clinical
pathways.
· Document and report all variances in expected clinical
outcomes.
· Monitor, investigate and document all sentinel \events as
part of Risk Management and Patient Safety Indicators (PSI’s).
·
Have knowledge of the following policies / protocols:
1.
Infection control
2.
Disaster plan.
3.
Code Blue policy.
4.
Fire and safety (Evacuation plan).
Qualification :
Professional Requirements:
· Must be
registered with the Egyptian Syndicate of Nurses or Nursing Council or
Association in country of origin.
· Must
practice nursing within the scope of practice as determined by the Egyptian
Syndicate and International Council o0f Nurses (ICN).
Education:
· BSN, Technical Institute or Diploma Nurse
· With 3-5 years experience.
Experience:
· At least 2-3 years experience as Head Nurse or
assistant head nurse or charge nurse in the same area of specialty.
Skills:
·
Good
English skill is important.
·
Good
communication skills and computer literacy.
·
Ability
to liaise and co-ordinate effectively.
· Critical thinking skills are necessary.
Training:
· Must attend 50 hrs of mandatory in-service
training in a contractual year.
· Uphold and support the mission statement and
vision of (......).
Communication and Interpersonal Skills:
· Follow the proper channels of communication
according to the department organizational chart.
· Must be able to communicate effectively
verbally and in English Write.
· Be in touch with other members of the Medical Care and Support Services Team for
effective and efficient patient care.
· Must be innovative and have critical thinking
skills.
· Always promote a good relationship in the department to maintain teamwork.
· Act as patient advocate and maintain patient
confidentiality at all times.
