Job Summary:
· The radiotherapy staff nurse provides good assessment skills and able to look at each patient's case in a holistic way. The radiotherapy staff nurse works in collaboration with the oncology department to provide comprehensive nursing care to the oncology patient receiving radiotherapy in the (...................) hospital. They must have strong skills, good communicator and committed to providing a high standard of care. Knowledge of radiotherapy is also essential. Management of a busy workload is central to this outpatient role.
Responsibilities and duties :-

Responsible
for the therapeutic environment where the patient receives radiation.
·
Responsible
for own safety and that of co-workers and visitors.
·
Assist
the physician in location the precise site of the tumor.
·
Ensure
that all staff in the department use dosimeters.
·
Keep records
of treatment plans for all patients receiving radiation therapy.
·
Train
new recruits in the department and keep training records in the department.
·
Liaise
with biomed department for routine internal maintenance for all equipment.
·
Maintain
accurate and precise record keeping of all equipments available in unit.
·
Monitor the patient's response to therapy.
·
Monitor
the patient's general physical, mental/emotional status.
·
Document
all clinical outcome variations and inform the oncologist.
· Keep
side effects to a minimum and keep patient under close surveillance while
receiving therapy.
·
Know the following protocols:
-
Disaster Policy.
-
Code blue policy.
-
Fire safety policy.
- Infection control policies
Educational Responsibilities:
Under
the direction of the head nurse & Clinical instructor the nurse will:

Contribution to the determination of the training needs relevant to the clinical area.
·
Participate in the clinical orientation of all new nurses and assistants.
·
Develop the leadership skills to act as an effective role model.
·
Take obligation on your very own studying and improvement needs.
·
Attend all required in-services training
programs.
·
Stay current with mandatory training such as Basic Life
Support (BLS).
Communication and Interpersonal skills:
· Follow the appropriate communication channels according to the organizational
chart of the department.
· Must be able to communicate effectively each verbally and in writing.
· Maintain professional appearance and dress
code.
· Wear Identification badge when working.
· Refer to out of office or lateness policies.
· Must be innovative and able to suppose critically.
· Always promote a good relationship in the unit to maintain teamwork.
Qualifications :
Education:
· Diploma,
Technical Institute, BSN or equivalent internationally recognized
qualification.
Experience :-
· Experience
in Radiation Therapy an advantage.
Training :-
· Must be
registered with the Egyptian Nurses Union and/or professional
registration body.
·
50 hours of training per year compulsory.
·
BLS
certification is mandatory.
